Dr. Braile get picture with chiropractic supporters Arnold Schwarzenegger Lee Haney Monica Brant

On March 1, 2014, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney, Monica Brant, and numerous other famous athletes showed their support for chiropractic by speaking at the International Chiropractors Association's Council on Sports & Fitness Symposium in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr Bob was in attendance and got to take pictures with each of the fitness and bodybuilding celebrities.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has always been a supporter of chiropractic and has spoken at this chiropractic event for the past 22 years. "This is the great thing about chiropractic. It's not only when someone has an injury or a time when there's a problem they come to the chiropractor." Arnold continued by praising how chiropractors don't just care for those who are having problems and are proactive with their patients, "...that's not the only thing you do. You then give them advice on how not to get injured, and how not to get sick in the first place."

Body building legend and eight-time Mr. Olympia, Lee Haney spoke at the chiropractic program and gave his testimony of how chiropractic has helped him.  Also presenting was Monica Brant, a multiple Ms. Fitness and Figure Champion, and a legend in women's physique and fitness competitions, who also recanted how chiropractic helped her compete at the high level she has for years.

Before taking a picture with every chiropractor attending the event, Arnold summed up all the athletes and celebrities' affection for chiropractic by saying, "As you can see we all love you. We love your profession."

Weather got you down?

Weather got you down?Person walking with an umbrella in a heavy rain

Snow, rain, sleet, and dropping temperatures slammed the US in the last month, and your body may feel like it got blasted, too.

Weather affects people physically and emotionally. Most people know that winter’s shorter days can bring on seasonal depression.  In addition, many other conditions can worsen or develop because of the weather.

  • Joint pain: Barometric pressure (the force exerted on objects by atmospheric weight) causes body tissues to swell putting pressure on the bones. Also, cold weather affects the thickness of joint fluid.
  • Sinus pain: Barometric pressure is the culprit again.
  • Blood pressure: A low atmospheric or barometric pressure causes blood pressure to drop. In addition, low temperatures cause blood vessels to narrow.
  • Emotional health: Cold and cloudy days bring on bad moods, but suicides occur most often in the late spring and early summer.
  • Asthma and allergies: Warm temperatures bring on pollen while cold temperatures put sufferers in indoor environments with forced heat and possible air filters.
  • Headaches: Barometric pressure causes some people to suffer with headaches. Cold temperatures can make headaches worse.
  • Diabetes: Cold fronts cause blood to thicken, so diabetics have difficulty controlling blood sugar.
  • Heart attack: Count on 200 additional heart attacks for each 1.8 degree drop in temperature. Shoveling snow and other cold weather activities, higher blood pressure, and a higher risk of blood clots play a part.
  • Colds and flu: Experts believe that quick temperature changes can weaken the immune system causing the winter sniffles and body aches.

Combat the weather by taking care of yourself and your family. The five facets of health: proper diet (toxin-free), proper exercise, proper rest, proper mental attitude, and proper nerve function will all increase your ability to fight winter’s woes.

Braile Chiropractic helps your nervous system to function at optimum ability through chiropractic adjustments. We can help you to weather the storm!

St. Patricks Day and Chiropractic

Child dressed for St. Patrick's DayEvery year on March 17th, many people in the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green clothing, drinking green beer, eating traditional Irish food, and attending parades and festivities.

St. Patrick’s Day,March 17th, is the anniversary of St. Patrick’s death in the fifth century, and has been a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. Today, however, St. Patrick’s Day has become a day to party- without much thought of the life of the saint and his religious beliefs.

St. Patrick was born to wealthy parents in Britain. His father was a Christian deacon, though the family was not particularly religious.  Being a deacon was purely for saving money, as the family gained tax incentives from the position.  At the age of 16, St. Patrick was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland to be a slave.

He lived in County Mayo, Ireland for six years slaving as a shepherd. Isolated and lonely, St. Patrick took solace in his belief in God and Christianity. After six years, St. Patrick had a dream in which God told him to leave Ireland. St. Patrick escaped back to Britain where he had another dream where he was told to return to Ireland as a missionary.

Celtic CrossAfter years of religious training, St. Patrick returned to Ireland to convert the pagan Irish and minister to Christians in Ireland. St. Patrick used native Irish traditions to superimpose Christianity with pagan beliefs. The sun, an Irish symbol, was used on the cross to create the Celtic cross. Bonfires were used at Easter because fire was used in pagan rituals.

The shamrock was a sacred plant that symbolized the rebirth of spring. Legend says that St. Patrick would hold up the shamrock and ask, “Is it one leaf or three?” “It is both one leaf and three leaves,” the Irish followers would reply. So, one God in three persons as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit was explained using the native and traditional Irish symbol of the shamrock.

A shamrock can also be used to symbolize Chiropractic. According to Ralph W. Stephenson, D.C., author of The Chiropractic Textbook, chiropractic is a philosophy, science, and art of things natural, and a system of adjusting the spinal column, by hand only, for the correction of the cause of dis-ease.  Chiropractic is the whole shamrock or one leaf, and the three leaves are the philosophy, science, and art of chiropractic.

So, on St. Patrick’s Day, when you see a shamrock, don’t just think of green beer or corned beef and cabbage.  Think about your Chiropractic care and celebrate with an adjustment for a healthy and natural life!

Get green. Get healthy. Get Chiropractic!

Braile Chiropractic teams up with Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center

Oklahaven Children's Chiropractic CenterOklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center began in 1962 as a non-profit charitable organization to give chiropractic adjustments to chronically ill children and restore their bodies’ innate healing ability.

Braile Chiropractic of Marietta, Ga. unites with Oklahaven during the season of love, Jan. 22 through Feb. 14, to raise funds for Oklahaven with the donation of x-rays proceeds with the “Have a Heart” campaign coupon. With the “Have a Heart” coupon, new patients will save 50% off the cost of their x-rays. The 50% paid will be directly donated to Oklahaven to support chiropractic services and the dream of a drug-free and healthy lifestyle for these chronically ill children.

Oklahaven’s creation started when six chiropractors visualized a center where children with debilitating arthritis, paralyzed limbs, limited mobility, or other chronic illnesses could attain health with chiropractic care. Oklahaven, located in Oklahoma City, Okla., is now directed by CEO and chiropractor, Dr. Bobby Doscher.

The success stories of the children who reached optimum health with chiropractic care provided by Oklahaven testify for the effectiveness of chiropractic to give back the body’s natural recuperative powers. Robert, a young boy diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, was brought by his mom to Oklahaven as a last resort after rejecting the chemotherapy prescribed for her five-year-old son. His mother describes a child wracked by pain, afraid of normal touches and hugs, and constantly crying.

“Even loving hugs and tickle fights he shied away from—afraid of being hurt,” Robert’s mom said.

Traditional medicine failed Robert as Robert lost his appetite and was nauseous from taking anti-inflammatory medications, causing him to lose weight.  Medicine after medicine was tried as doctors hopscotched through the prescriptive medicine cabinet to find relief for Robert. When chemotherapy was prescribed, worries about the lasting effects of chemotherapy on Robert’s immune system drove his mom to try chiropractic for Robert on the recommendation of a friend.

Robert thrived with chiropractic care, changing from a crying, frightened child to a happy boy playing on the playground with the other children. Physical and emotional differences were noted as he became confident of his new body.

By high school, Robert had learned to play the piano, guitar, and saxophone, and held down a job. Robert joined the high school band at the Tournament of Roses Parade, representing Oklahoma for the state’s centennial and marching six miles while playing Oklahoma over 55 times. With chiropractic care, Robert had developed from a debilitated and fearful child into a strong and talented young man.

Join Dr. Bob and the staff of Braile Chiropractic in the “Have a Heart” campaign to help children like Robert. Help Oklahaven deliver chiropractic care to ill children by taking a heart coupon and giving it to a loved one who needs chiropractic care. Your loved one saves 50% on all x-rays, and the other 50% of x-ray proceeds go directly to Oklahaven to help the children. You will help your loved one reach their optimum health, and help Oklahaven continue its mission to deliver life-saving chiropractic adjustments to chronically ill children like Robert.

Reform or Refinance Which Are We Getting with Obamacare

Posted: September 4, 2012
By: Dr Robert Braile

Rarely a newscast goes by or a newspaper printed that does not carry a story on the health care reforms enacted by the President dubbed “Obamacare”. Certainly, the hottest topic of the day for the next few months will continue to be health care reform. Panels of so-called experts have already started appearing on many news talk shows to bandy about the Obama plan or the Republican response. There are even campaign television commercials airing designed to scare the general public of these changes.

But, the one noticeable thing about all of this hoopla is that very little talk of actual health care reform is going on. Most of the talk is about refinancing our health care system. The basis of all the discussion today is how to rearrange the payment for care so that it costs less. Forming purchasing alliances, HMOs, and other managed care groups doesn't change the way health care itself is delivered to the individual patient. These systems just change the way the doctor gets paid for rendering the care, and extend this same care to those who previously were not covered by insurance.

If we are truly interested in reforming health care, we must examine health care itself. One of the problems that has been identified in our present system is that it is profit motivated. I've seen experts on talk shows say that the doctor's desire to make a profit drives him or her to perform extra tests and procedures in order to increase fees. Some of these experts go on to say that a socialized or managed system would cure this problem by limiting what procedures the doctor can get paid for. Unfortunately, if you could take the profit out of health care, it would only serve to force a lot of good people out of the field. The Soviet Union fell apart because their whole society had no profit motive or reason to produce.

In order for us to reform our health care delivery system while retaining the profit motive for the doctors, we must restructure the system of incentives. At present, the system of incentives is based on sickness. This means that doctors and the entire medical industry make money on sick patients. The more sick patients there are, the more money there is to be made. The sicker the patients the higher the medical bills. Now, I'm not suggesting that doctors or medical corporations conspire to keep people sick, but something is wrong with the incentives when everyone in the system benefits from more sickness, than they do for people being healthy.

Consider the fact that the profits of hospitals are based on their ratio of occupied beds. In reality, would it not be better for the overall health of our society if the hospital bed occupancy rate was very low? This would mean that fewer people were sick enough to require a hospital stay.

Changing our incentives in health care is the only reform that will ultimately help the patient, our budgets, and keep the doctors happy. We must reward doctors and patients for wellness instead of paying all the big bucks for sickness. A whole new direction would emerge in health care if it became more profitable to keep people healthy than to treat them when they're sick. The entire health care industry would adapt overnight from sickness care to prevention and wellness care if that's where the money incentive was.

The question ultimately comes down to this: do we really want reform? Are we willing to change the incentives of our health care system? Do we want a consumer that demands health and is willing to pay for it, or the current system of patients demanding that someone else pay for their sickness treatment?  These changes will not come easy because they require a change in the way doctors, patients, insurance companies, drug companies and the government view health care. But, if we can make these changes, we can produce a health care system that is geared toward keeping people healthy instead of paying huge amounts for treatments when they're sick. If we want to improve the quality of our lives, we must insist we want Reform, not just Refinance.
