God Made A Mistake!

God Made a Mistake !

If all you do is read headlines or titles, the one above certainly will rile you up if you believe in God.  Assuming that everyone reading this does believe in God, then allow me to explain the sarcasm of my title.  No, I do not actually believe God is capable of making a mistake. I make this inflammatory title statement to call into question our healthcare actions that seem to be predicated on the idea that we were somehow made imperfectly.

Let’s start with Genesis 1:26 from the New Living Translation (NLT)

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

I notice that God did not say “…somewhat like us”, or “…like us, but a little less perfect than us.” He said “…in our image, to be like us.”

Now, I’m going to take a “leap of faith” here and say that I doubt God suffers from any chronic illness or requires medications to get through the day. After all, God is perfect. But if we were made in his image to be like him, then why do 68.1% of the population in the U.S. take prescription medications according to a recent study published in the journal, Mayo Clinic Proceedings? Why is it that most Americans suffer from one chronic ailment or another? Why do we feel that we were made so badly that our children need over 50 vaccinations just to prevent disease? Illness and sickness are so accepted that we spend about 18% of this nation’s gross domestic product on healthcare.

From a faith perspective, the answer is simple. If we were made perfect, then it would take a man-made interference to separate us from perfection. This separation would lead us to sickness, pain and ill health.

Now I know that some of you may be saying, “Do you mean to say that my sickness is my fault?” No, that is not what I’m saying. Fault or blame for illness is a subject for a completely different time. What I am saying is that only separation from the way God intended us to exist could be the cause of sickness and disease.

Let me give an example. God gave us clean fresh air to breath. However, if we run into a burning building and breath in the smoky air, we will eventually succumb to smoke inhalation.  In a much slower sense, if you smoke, or breathe polluted air for most of your life, there will also be a negative health consequence.  Now, while the smoking would be a lifestyle choice, breathing polluted air may be a result of where you live and not under your immediate control.

So, although the question of blame is best left for another discussion, any interference with the God given process for how we are suppose to function leads to health consequences.

On a more common scale, do we really believe that all the drugs we are putting into our body do not interfere with the normal perfect God-given process for our bodies? Did God make us deficient in the chemicals we add to our systems? Did God make us weak, so that the only way we can deal with a difficult life situation is with anti-depressants? Did he make us so that we need drugs to sleep, to wake, or to produce children?

Most of health care today is nothing more than the treatment of conditions that we should not have in the first place. While I fully understand the need for emergency care in an accident or crisis, most of care today is chronic long-term drug treatment. In fact, if you watch the drug commercials on TV, you will notice that almost none talk about curing an issue so you will not need that drug anymore. Most all commercials talk about controlling your symptoms and continuing to take that drug, presumably forever.

Is our state of caring for each other in our medical system as God intended? I think not! As a chiropractor, I have dedicated my life’s work toward correcting man-made interference to the human nervous system. I know that the controlling system of our body is the nervous system and that any interference to that system will result in poor health.

I do not treat people’s pain or conditions.  I remove interference to the God-given ability of the body to heal itself. When I do this, people heal. I do not and will not take any credit for that healing. Only God heals. My purpose is to remove the one type of physical interference I am trained to correct.

I see every patient as a perfect expression of God’s creation. It is the interference to this expression that has resulted in poor health.  My job is to remove that interference!  God did not make a mistake. We do when we think we know better than He how to heal.
